There's Only One Who Knows the Beginning and End of All Things

For in Him, we live and move and exist ... Acts 17:28 a

What's the first thing you can remember about your life? It's probably not the time you spent in your mother's womb or your birth or even things in infancy. Our memories are finite, and we just can't recall every moment in our lives.

But there's one who does. There's one who knew you before you were born. God is called the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end of all things. In Psalm 139:13-16, David wrote that God created his inmost being, knit him together in his mother's womb, knew his frame when he was made in the secret place and woven together, saw his unformed body and ordained the length of all his days.

God, who existed before anything was created and who will continue to exist, even when this world comes to an end, is your beginning and end as well. He knew you before you were inside your mother. You were already receiving thousands of His thoughts. You were already being created with purpose and thought. You were already being loved by the Creator of all things. In the Scripture above, the Bible says that in Him you live and move and have your being.

Psalm 139 also says God's thoughts toward you outnumber the grains of sand. He forgets nothing about you. He knows your thoughts before you think them, your words before you say them. He knows when you sit down and when you stand up, and He' acquainted with all your ways. He knows when you go out and when you come in. His hand is on you, and no matter where you go, He is there. He was there at your beginning. He is there through all your life. And He'll be there at the end of your life on earth as well, even as eternity opens. Nothing is hidden from Him or forgotten by Him.

Because you can't remember anything before you were born and have no memory of His work forming you, God is at work throughout your life revealing Himself and His love to you. He wants you to know Him as intimately as He knows you. He wants you to know His ways. He wants you to abide in Him and trust Him. He wants you to know why He created you as you are and what He wants to help you accomplish while on earth.

Listen to what Jesus says in Luke 12:22-24, 31-32, "Do not worry about your life, what you will eat or about your body, what you will wear. Life is more than food and the body more than clothes. Consider the ravens: they do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them And how much more valuable you are than birds! ... Seek His kingdom and these things will be given to you as well. Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom."

God, our Alpha and Omega, wants you to draw close to Him and receive from Him all He's prepared for you, including the salvation of your soul, so you can live with Him for eternity. God, the beginning and end of all things, knew you'd need a Savior, even before you were born. He knew you'd sin and that because of that sin, you'd be condemned to eternal death and separation from Him and all He intended for you. So, He opened His kingdom and sent His Son Jesus to die in your place so that if you placed your trust in Him and turned from your sins, you could be His child and stand to inherit all He has for you, now and in eternity.

If there's one person you can trust in all the world, shouldn't it be the One who is the Alpha and Omega, the One who knew you before your beginning, knows you now along with all your needs ... the One who can make sense of your life and show you why you were created ... the One who wants you to spend eternity with Him in heaven?
