Can God be Trusted?

For the Word of the LORD is right and true; he is faithful in all he does. Psalm 34:4

In the Scriptures, God has made many wonderful promises to His children, which we can read over and over again. But unless we trust God’s Word, these promises won’t hold much meaning. Trust can be frightening-- how do we know God will do as He says?

The first thing to remember is that God is not like us! We tend to humanize Him, because we can’t imagine the absolute perfection of His character. We try to understand the one whose mind is incomprehensible! Think about it! By definition, God is not like humans! Psalm 33:4 tells us at least three things about God that should encourage us to trust him and take him at His word, no matter what is happening in our lives.

First, the Word of the LORD is right. He cannot do wrong. He is simply incapable of doing wrong! That means that whatever He brings to our lives is, in God’s mind, the right thing for us.

Second, the Word of the LORD is true. He cannot lie; He always tells the truth. So when God says, “I will never leave you nor forsake you;” we can trust that He will always be with us. Always!

Third, He is faithful. He cannot break a promise. He is always consistent. Because of His character, we can know He will never leave us. His Word says, “He is faithful!”

When I tune out the noise of the world and focus on these truths about God, I cannot help but rejoice. I bow my head in thankfulness to the living God and remember my many blessings. May we learn to rejoice in His righteousness, truth and faithfulness, no matter what He allows in our lives.
