Who or What Do You Trust?Amber Hermes, MDiv, BCC
The king is not saved by his great army; a warrior is not delivered by his great strength. The war horse is a false hope for salvation, and by its great might it cannot rescue. Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his steadfast love, that he may deliver their soul from death and keep them alive in famine. Our soul waits for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. For our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name. Let your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us, even as we hope in you. Psalm 33:16-22 God is not bound by presidents or kings or any "ruling" body; He does all for His purposes, but this verse helps me to look into my own heart and ask myself, "Who or what do you trust, Amber?" Do I trust my own wisdom (God forbid!), or do I trust our bank account or insurance, or health or circumstances? Are these more powerful and able to save than God? I quickly see my foolishness and my house of cards. We each fear who or what we trust, because we believe it has control. If my trust is in anything or anyone else, I will fall. I will be disappointed. I will fear and I will worry. I will not have peace or contentment or joy. Is God able to save me from His terrible wrath and redeem me for His own for all eternity or not? If the answer is yes, then all the other things I need "saving from" become very insignificant, don't they? And if indeed He is able to save, He is certainly sovereign over all other things in my life -- yes, He can handle them. Perhaps this a passage you can pray through this week in light of any challenges, problems, fears or sins you may be facing. |
