MVP

Chaplain Tina Wilson, CTCA/Southwestern Regional Medical Center

Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils and to cure diseases. Luke 9:1

Can you remember being a youth and picking teams for various activities? Whether it was sports, a school project, or simple turn-taking for chores, you always wanted the best person on your team. Consequently, you considered who, in conjunction with your abilities, could help reach the goal. Of course, our picks would change depending on the task; for racing, one would pick the best runner, for a school project, one would pick the person with the best grades. This was done in order to be the best, in order to win.

As adults we continue to pick teammates. From our friends to lunch buddies, even to the person we will marry, we look for one with great ability. We do this for many reasons; however, two major reasons are 1.) encouragement and 2.) the opportunity to achieve great things. When people come together to accomplish a goal, they increase in ability and creativity, yielding amazing exploits. The encouragement teamwork provides helps each member to work to his greatest potential, producing a reward for all.

Jesus understands about teamwork as seen in the calling of his disciples. He, too, wants the best pick for His team. What is amazing is that He sees every person and considers him the best pick. For Christ realizes that His abilities make the team function; He excels in all things. Therefore, He can pick us, unskilled and weak, to be on His team.

Christ extends an invitation to be on His team, knowing that it is He, our most valuable player, who causes the winning plays to happen. We, through obedience and trust in Him, are privileged to enjoy the victories. Trusting the MVP gives us encouragement and the assurance that we may reach our ultimate potential. Knowing that Christ is there to help us along the way, we are able to give our all, realizing with Christ we cannot fail. It is through this fostering relationship that were empowered to participate in His great feats.

In our fight against cancer, Christ is there, sustaining and healing, all the while empowering us with strength for life. He is the captain of our familial and medical support team. Jesus is our greatest asset on the team in that He provides all that is necessary to win: HIM.

With Him, we can play to our full potential and do the impossible. With Him, we can win.

Thought: You are Jesus favorite pick.
