Nothing Lasts Forever, Right?

2 Timothy 2:13 If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.

Ever noticed how everything we buy seems programmed to go out or self- destruct? It gives out at the most inopportune times ... a tire blows, the computer shows an error, the printer ribbon goes out, the dishwasher fails, the light bulb burns out, the roof springs a leak. The life expectancy for most of our things is very short. Their failure ensures buying which boosts the economy and well, that's the way it is.

But not so with God. He's eternal ... He existed in eternity past and will exist into eternity future. He's inifinite. That's beyond our understanding; we live in a finite world, and eternity is a word we say but can't possibly grasp. It's easier to just remember that God is never failing.

God doesn't wear out, burn out, blow out, fade, break, tear, lose parts, get static-y, need a new belt or organ, get lost Himself, walk out of your life, die or let you down. And better yet, He comes with a sure-fire guarantee -- His proven love through the gift of His Son Jesus, His proven character down through history and His written Word, the Bible, which He also says is eternal and will never fail or fade away, even though heaven and earth fail. His Word isn't written in some disappearing ink or smudging pencil. It's enduring ... every "jot and tittle" of it. And it will all be proved true.

The Bible tells us in many ways that God never fails. God is love, it says, and love never fails. God makes a covenant with us -- a contract -- and never fails to keep His part. God won't "fail us nor forsake us." His compassions never fail; they're new every morning. "But the Lord is faithful, who shall establish you, and keep you from evil." (2 Thessalonians 3:3) The verses go on and on. But they don't do anything for us until, like a chair or tool we buy, we decide to put our faith in it, use it and see whether it really works.

When you put your faith in God and decide to take Him at His Word, you'll find a never-failing Friend, a never-failing Father, never-failing Wisdom, a never-failing Promise, a never-failing Guide, never-failing Love, a never- failing Partner, a never-failing Future, never-failing Hope, never-failing Peace, a never-failing Light, a never-failing Sanctuary, a never-failing Pardon, a never-failing Protector, a never-failing lots of things all wrapped up in the most amazing God who, because He is who He says He is, is absolutely worthy of your faith and your whole-hearted devotion as well.
