Hope, encouragement and strength are God's gifts to us through His Word.

Our Journey of Hope has identified several scriptures that are important to different aspects of cancer care ministry. These scriptures are here as a convenient resource for ministers as well as patients and caregivers. May they serve as a wonderful reminder that you do not walk through this journey alone. 

  • Leadership Bible Verses: These scriptures may show you how to become the leader that God intends you to be, or may encourage you to stay on track in growing in your godly leadership.

    1 Peter 5:2-4 - Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly; nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock; and when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away.

    Proverbs 16:9 - A man’s heart plans his way, but the LORD directs his steps.

    Hebrews 13:7 - Remember those who rule over you, who have spoken the word of God to you, whose faith follow, considering the outcome of their conduct.

    2 Timothy 2:15 - Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

  • Comfort Bible Verses: Scriptures that may offer comfort in the most desperate times of need.

    Psalm 46:1-3 - God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, even though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; though its waters roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with its swelling. Selah.

    Isaiah 57:18 - I have seen his ways, and will heal him: I will also lead him, and restore comforts to him and to his mourners.

    Psalm 145:8 - The LORD is gracious and full of compassion, slow to anger and great in mercy.

    Psalm 32:7 - You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah.

    Psalm 30:5 - For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.

    Psalm 55:22 - Cast your burden on the LORD, and He shall sustain you; he shall never permit the righteous to be moved.

    Psalm 68:6 - God sets the solitary in families; He brings out those who are bound into prosperity; but the rebellious dwell in a dry land.

    2 Corinthians 1:3-5 - Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds through Christ.

    Psalm 23:4 - Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

    Romans 8:31 - What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

    Romans 8:28 - And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

  • Hope Bible Verses: These scriptures may offer hope and encouragement.

    Isaiah 40:31 - But those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.

    Isaiah 43:19 - Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.

    Ephesians 1:4-6 - … just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.

    Ephesians 3:20-21 - Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

    Philippians 4:6 - Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;

    Proverbs 3:5-8 - Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and depart from evil. It will be health to your flesh, and strength to your bones.

    Psalm 138:8 - The LORD will perfect that which concerns me; Your mercy, O LORD, endures forever; do not forsake the works of Your hands.

    Psalm 51:10 - Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

    Psalm 68:19 - Blessed be the Lord, who daily loads us with benefits, the God of our salvation! Selah.

    Psalm 33:18-19 - Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his mercy, to deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine.

    Psalm 145:19 - He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him; He also will hear their cry and save them.

    Psalm 130:5 - I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in His word I do hope.

    Psalm 37:4 - Delight yourself also in the LORD, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.

    Zephaniah 3:17 - The LORD your God in your midst, the Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.

    Romans 15:13 - Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

  • God’s Compassion Bible Verses: These scriptures may offer you God’s compassionate and unconditional love.

    1 Kings 8:50 - And forgive Your people who have sinned against you, and all their transgressions which they have transgressed against You; and grant them compassion before those who took them captive, that they may have compassion on them.

    Acts 3:6 - Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.”

    Lamentations 3:22-25 - Through the LORD’S mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is Your faithfulness. “The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I hope in Him!” The LORD is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him.

    Psalm 111:4 - He has made His wonderful works to be remembered; the LORD is gracious and full of compassion.

    Psalm 103:13 - As a father pities his children, so the LORD pities those who fear Him.

    Psalm 86:15 - But You, O LORD, are a God full of compassion, and gracious, longsuffering and abundant in mercy and truth.

    Psalm 112:4 - Unto the upright there arises light in the darkness; He is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.

    Psalm 145:8 - The LORD is gracious and full of compassion, slow to anger and great in mercy.

    Matthew 14:14 - And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick.

    Matthew 18:33 - Should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant, just as I had pity on you?

    Matthew 20:34 - So Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. And immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed Him.

    Mark 5:19 - However, Jesus did not permit him, but said to him, “Go home to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He has had compassion on you.”

    Luke 7:13 - When the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.”

    Luke 10:33 - But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was. And when he saw him, he had compassion.

    1 Peter 3:8 - Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous...

  • Healing Bible Verses: These scriptures may uplift patients and caregivers in their journey.

    Jeremiah 30:17 - “For I will restore health to you and heal you of your wounds,” says the LORD, “because they called you an outcast saying: ‘This is Zion; no one seeks her.’”

    Exodus 15:26 - … If you diligently heed the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the LORD who heals you.

    Jeremiah 17:14 - Heal me, O LORD, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved, for You are my praise.

    Psalm 103:1-3 - Bless the LORD, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: who forgives all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases.

    3 John 1:2 - Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.

  • Peace Bible Verses: These scriptures may offer peace of mind in difficult times.

    John 16:33 - These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.

    Romans 8:6 - For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

    Philippians 4:6-7 - Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

    Colossians 3:15 - And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.

    1 Peter 5:7 - Casting all your care upon Him, for he cares for you.

    Psalm 138:7 - Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me; You will stretch out Your hand against the wrath of my enemies, and Your right hand will save me.

    Romans 8:38-39 - For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord

    Romans 8:28 - And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

    Mark 5:34 - And He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction.”

    John 16:33 - These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.

  • Encouraging Bible Verses: These scriptures may offer support for the journey.

    1 Corinthians 15:57 - But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

    James 5:13-16 - Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

    John 11:4 - When Jesus heard that, He said, “This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified through it.”

    2 Kings 17:39 - But the LORD your God you shall fear; and He will deliver you from the hand of all your enemies.

    Matthew 19:26 - But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

    Matthew 21:22 - And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.

    Romans 4:20 - He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God,

    Romans 10:9-10 - … if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

  • Strength Bible Verses: These scriptures may give strength in vulnerable times.

    Psalm 46:1-3 - God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, even though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; though its waters roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with its swelling. Selah.

    Psalm 41:3 - The LORD will strengthen him on his bed of illness; You will sustain him on his sickbed.

    Psalm 138:3 - In the day when I cried out, You answered me, and made me bold with strength in my soul.

    Psalm 18:2 - The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

    2 Corinthians 12:9-10 - And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

    Philippians 4:13 - I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

  • Inspirational Bible Verses: These scriptures may inspire and uplift those dealing with life's trials and tribulations.

    Jeremiah 29:11 - For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.
